Amirabdollahian made the remarks as he met with OIC Secretary General Hissein Brahim Taha in the Saudi Arabian port city of Jeddah on Tuesday.
The OIC is holding an extraordinary summit of its Council of Foreign Ministers in Jeddah to discuss the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people.
During his meeting with Taha, Amirabdollahian expressed deep concerns about the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, where more than 30,500 Palestinians have been killed since early October and the entire population is now facing acute shortages of basic necessities of life.
He thanked the OIC chief for “immediately” granting a request by Iran and other Islamic countries to hold an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers to address the situation in Gaza.
Iran’s top diplomat stressed that Palestine remains the “central issue” of the Islamic world and called for “stronger and more effective” actions by the OIC to put an end to the Israeli genocide in Gaza and address the humanitarian catastrophe in the besieged territory.
Taha, for his part, expressed gratitude for Iran’s strong position in supporting the Palestinian people and also for its proposal for the OIC to hold an emergency meeting on Gaza.
